The Watershed Science Team (WST) is working on watershed science related subjects in order to achieve OWC goals.

The team facilitates discussion among agencies involved with research and monitoring on the aquatic environment (water quality, water quantity, etc.) and related land use activities in the basin. It promotes the diffusion of knowledge by sharing science results through tours, scientific forum and other means. The Watershed Science Team also provides opportunities for consultation and collaboration among different agencies working on water related issues in the basin.

Watershed Science Directory is now available

The OWC Watershed Science Team is very excited to announce the launch of our first Research and Monitoring Project Directory! This directory summarizes water-related research and monitoring projects currently being conducted in the Oldman watershed. It is limited to surface water at this time.

The Watershed Science Team hopes that this Directory will not only increase awareness about these projects but will also play an important role in future collaborations.

The OWC would like to thank everyone who participated in this Directory. Your enthusiasm about your work is inspiring!

2010 Science Forum

The 2010 OWC Science Forum was very successful; engaging 120 participants in presentations and encouraging collaboration within the scientific community.

Twelve presentations and 10 posters highlighted current research pertinent to the Oldman watershed and offered ideas for future research. The Forum was a great opportunity to learn about our watershed, hear about current issues and ideas for management and for researchers to stay in touch with what other researchers are working on. Some topics included bacteria in our water supply that cause illness, headwaters recreation management and new tools such as models and maps that assist with watershed management.

2008 Science Forum

The first OWC Science Forum was held at the University of Lethbridge and the theme was "Learning about our Watershed, Research at the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College".  This event was well received with over 100 people attending.  The excellent speakers presenting at this forum were from the departments of Biological Sciences and Geography at the University of Lethbridge and the Department of Environmental Sciences at Lethbridge College, and also included poster sessions during lunch.

Watershed Science Tour
The Watershed Science Team recognizes that it is one thing to hear or read about the research being conducted in our basin and it is another thing to actually get out in the field and see it first hand.  That's why they decided to host tours to showcase some of the studies that are currently being done in our basin.  To learn about the various tours the Team has hosted click on the links below.
